CHILEAN CULTURE

Chilean culture is a fascinating fusion of indigenous elements, particularly those of the Mapuche people, and the influence of Spanish colonialism, which is evident in the country's language and Catholic customs. The substantial influx of European immigrants has also had a profound impact on Chilean society, which is considered relatively homogeneous compared to other Latin American nations.

Santiago de Chile stands as the economic and cultural hub of Chilean society. The customs of Chile extend far and wide across the country, deeply ingrained in the national identity. Chileans are renowned for their fervent passion for football, while rodeos also hold a special place in their hearts. The country's diverse geography plays a significant role in shaping Chilean customs, with skiing and surfing being highly popular activities, taking advantage of Chile's towering Andes mountains and extensive coastline. While seafood abounds, Chilean gastronomy varies greatly by region, offering a rich tapestry of culinary delights.

The climate of Chile:

Chile's climate encompasses a wide range of conditions across a vast geographical scale that stretches for nearly 40 degrees of latitude (and almost 73 degrees if the claimed Chilean Antarctic Territory is considered). Broadly speaking, when analyzing the different territories of Chile's geography, the north has a drier climate with relatively high temperatures, while the south has a cooler and more humid climate.

Rainfall is more frequent during the winter months. It is also worth mentioning the rainy tropical climate of Easter Island, the subtropical maritime climate of the Juan Fernández archipelago, and the polar climate of the Chilean Antarctic Territory.

According to the Köppen climate classification, Chile includes within its borders the 5 major climate groups that exist in the world: Tropical, Desert, Temperate, Continental, and Polar.
